LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Keeping small businesses competitive with big brands

As a small entrepreneur and taxpayer, I am always concerned about attempts by government and big business to line their pockets by passing the costs on to the average consumer. If you watch the political circus in Washington for a while, you’ll quickly see that the big megacorporations are working hand in hand with some of the top lawmakers.
Whether it’s Biden working with Mark Zuckerberg to stifle free speech online or Pelosi using his insider connections to trade millions, it’s clear the ruling party has no business. no problem tipping the scales in his favor and that of his buddies.
That’s why when I read this article on Fox News today, I felt compelled to share it with like-minded readers.
In the article (linked here), the author states “This summer, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., a fierce progressive defender of the Biden administration, introduced a bill that would hurt American consumers, change the way Americans use their credit cards, and put money in the pockets of big companies like Amazon and Walmart. It is also a blatant attempt by Durbin to blame the inflation of the Democrats and the Biden administration on American job creators.
I looked at the bill that Senator Durbin is proposing and found that it was patently anti-free market. These are basically price controls on the payment processing industry. Price controls are never a good idea, especially in a country based on the principle of free trade and commerce.
As a small business owner, I know that every dollar counts. We can’t let the government set prices that prevent small businesses from competing with big ones like Amazon and Walmart. We need a level playing field – not a system set up for Durbin and the Dems donors!
I ask that we encourage all of our Louisiana legislators to oppose Dick Durbin and his bad credit card bill!
